Faye Wong Cancels Concert at Chengdu
Venue Does Not Meet Fire Regulations

Originally scheduled to perform in June, the organizers for Faye Wong's
concert in Chengdu suddenly announced yesterday that the concert has
been cancelled, citing the venue did not meet fire regulations. Ticket
sales already began in February, and many Faye fans were left
disappointed by the sudden announcement. Many voiced their complaints on
Weibo; some even demanded a public apology from Faye. Faye's manager
Katie Chan quickly stepped forward to clarify the situation.

The concert was to be held at the Chengdu International Exhibition &
Convention Center (新會展中心). However, as the venue has yet to go through
fire regulation testing, organizers were forced to cancel the show. The
range of tickets being sold were from $500 RMB to $3999 RMB. Fans who
already bought tickets will be notified on how to collect their refunds.
The concert was originally scheduled at the Sichuan Provincial
Gymnasium (四川省體育館). However, it was deemed too small and unable to
accommodate all the equipment. It was later moved to Chengdu, but the
venue never underwent fire regulation checks.

Katie Chan says she's been working alongside the organizers for the past
two months hoping the concert would go ahead as scheduled. However at
the end they were unable to get permission. Katie asked fans for their
understanding on her Weibo: "Not only do we want everyone to have a good
time at the concert, we also want to guarantee everyone's safety. We
have to follow the government regulations and it is unfortunate we were
forced to cancel the show." Katie has requested for the organizers to
refund the money as soon as possible and to ensure no losses for anyone
who purchased tickets. As Faye's manager, she feels disappointed and
regretful about the situation. She hopes fans will understand that this
was beyond their control. She says she has seen some of the comments
fans have left, and does not blame them for expressing their anger.

While Faye fans are disappointed by the cancelled show, many understand
Katie and Faye's predicament and knows the situation was outside of
their control. Some fans even lined up in the rain for four hours to buy
tickets, but now their original hopes of seeing their idol in concert
are dashed. Other fans are criticizing the organizers, saying they
wanted to get their hands on their money first without securing the
venue. There are a handful of people who are laying the blame on Faye
directly and have demanded a public apology. However most fans are still
supportive of Faye and Katie. As for Faye herself, she has yet to
comment on the situation. However, as she rarely comments on outside
news, she may or may not make an official reply through her Weibo.
